Buoyant trade for Devons sees a top of 6200gns at Sedgemoor

Tuesday’s sale of Devon cattle at Sedgemoor Auction Centre saw a top call of 6200gns and a near full house clearance for a select offering of males and females.

Sale leader at 6200gns was Knowstone Ferdinand 4th from father and son team John and Richard Stanbury, South Molton, Devon. This March 2019-born son of the multi award winning Yeomadon Ferdinand 2nd is out of the Barton Elite sired Knowstone Clare 23rd. Taking him home was Bowldon Farms, Tetbury, Glos.

Continuing a great day’s trade for the Stanbury family, the second highest price bull came from the same home, in the form of Knowstone Ferdinand 2nd. This April 2019-born bull is similarly bred to the sale leader being by Yeomadon Ferdinand 2nd again and this time out of Knowstone Clare 24th. This one was knocked down to K H May and Partners, Exeter, Devon.

A trio of bulls then sold for 3000gns, the first being the day’s pre-sale champion, picked out by judge Becky Hurd of the Whitefield herd, in the form of Exmoor Corporal from Angela Poad, Minehead, Somerset. Born March 2019, this one is by Forde Abbey Aesop and is out of Colesden Curly 22nd, a daughter of Colesden Samuel. Corporal was also the pick of new owners AW and SA Meikle, South Molton, Devon.

Sharing that price tag was Colleton Umpire from Simon and Grania Phillips, Chulmleigh, Devon. Home bred on both sides, this March 2019-born bull is by Colleton Pilgrim, an EX92 classified sire and is out of a Colleton-bred daughter of Tivington Kinsman. Taking this one home was Paradise Farms, Wimborne, Dorset.

Next at 3000gns was Eastyard Duke, an April 2019-born bull from Mr and Mrs M Cowell, Chulmleigh, Devon. By Clannaborough Raider, this one is out of the Eastyard Larkspur daughter, Eastyard Camelia 17th. Buyers here were Brown and Beer, Bideford, Devon.

The oldest bull on the day, Tilbrook Knock Back, from Gavin Hunter, Huntingdon, Cambs, then sold for 2600gns. This one is by Tilbrook Knock Knock and out of a homebred Tilbrook Kiwi daughter. Securing this one was J Limbrick, Sherborne, Glos.

Taking the double in the show ring by securing the female championship was Angela Poad with Exmoor Diana 6th. This April 2019-born Barton Devon Air 2nd daughter, out of an Eastyard-bred female by Stonegrove Larkspur was sold for 1700gns to Stephen Sparrow, Helston, Cornwall.
