Novak Djokovic will resume his Australian Open campaign today, with the Serb set to go up against Tomas Martin Etcheverry for a place in the next round. Djokovic remains the overwhelming favourite to win the first Grand Slam title of the new year but will need to ensure that he stays in tip-top condition to give himself the best chance of claiming the honours.
Djokovic managed to survive a scare against Dino Prizmic in round one before making light work of Alexei Popyrin to set up a third-round meeting with Etcheverry. However, a few questions have been raised over the 36-year-old’s physical condition, given that he is yet to reach the level that he is fully capable of thus far.
There will be no British singles players in action today, with many having already been knocked out following a whirlwind day on Thursday. The likes of Katie Boulter, Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu were all sent packing on day five, while Andy Murray was eliminated in the first round and later admitted that he was considering retirement in the wake of his latest high-profile defeat.
