A Devon based Glamping site is set to appear in the new season of Channel 4’s Four in A Bed national television competition against three other B&B businesses in the South West region

Dartmoor Reach Alpaca Farm in Bovey Tracey will appear in the show, televised over five episodes, which sees four bed and breakfast owners host one another, and at the end of their stay, rate one another’s hospitality skills.

At the end of the week, they all sit down to talk through their feedback – both the positive and the negative, with one bed and breakfast owner being crowned the winner.

Owners of Dartmoor Reach Alpaca Farm, Josh and Natalie Hyson started building their glamping site just as Covid began. Josh said:

‘It was an an incredibly hard time for the nation . It was blood sweat and tears building the glamping site . Builders merchants were closed as were the council bodies where we needed to seek specialist advice. We got there in the end and opened just as the lockdown was lifted’.

The couple have spent the last 5 years breeding Alpacas , at one point having 40 animals on site. They have sold Alpacas to customers as far away as Scotland. Josh who was brought up on a beef farm is certainly not afraid of hard work .

‘When we purchased the property it was just a muddy paddock. I have planted over 2000 trees on site, sewed an acre of wild flower meadow and even now have a bee hive producing our very own honey’.

The couple shared a dream of being able to offer accommodation to customers who needed a break from the hustle and bustle of modern life . Josh concentrates on running the farming business whilst Natalie runs yoga and meditation courses . Dartmoor Reach has recently been nominated for an award for Eco Friendly Business of the Year and Natalies business – Loveyogatree for Customer Service Excellence of the Year from The Devon Women in Business organisation .

‘We are so proud of our business that we were really excited to be invited onto the Four In a Bed programme by Channel 4. We have both worked so hard building the Glamping site whilst also raising a young family. We have both had some tough times recently losing loved ones so it was a welcome distraction to appear on the show . Filming the show was great fun although exhausting with some days not finishing until midnight after a 6am start. The other contestants and their places were all really different but we all got along well although payment day did see some sparks fly ! It will be interesting to see if the viewers can predict the winner.’

Four in a Bed is a Channel 4 TV Show where four sets of B&B owners host each other at their establishments and judge the hospitality and venue, and compete to be labelled the best value B&B of the week, at the end they find out what the guests have paid and the closest to 100 per cent wins the prize.

Dartmoor Reach will appear on the show on Tuesday, October 24. You can see more of the site at www.dartmoorreach.com
