Bradley Barcola would be open to joining Liverpool this summer in a British record transfer, according to reports. The winger has been linked with a potential move to Anfield to replace Mohamed Salah, who left the Reds at the end of last season. Barcola, widely considered as one of the world’s best forwards, is said to feature prominently on Liverpool’s shortlist.
He remains tied down to Paris Saint-Germain until the summer of 2028 but is reportedly stalling over a new contract. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 23-year-old has decided that he doesn’t want to agree fresh terms and could look to leave the French capital this summer. Now, it’s been reported that Liverpool would be his preferred destination.
Barcola is open to joining the Anfield giants, according to talkSPORT, but it’s claimed that PSG would demand a transfer fee in the region of £145million.
This would set a new British transfer record, surpassing the £125m paid by Liverpool to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle last summer.
PSG have reportedly been keeping an eye on other Premier League transfers over the course of this summer to gauge Barcola’s valuation.
It’s claimed that preliminary talks have already taken place at club level, but the Reds are yet to submit an opening bid.
Barcola only made 21 league starts for PSG last season and is reportedly willing to leave in order to play regular football elsewhere.
Andoni Iraola, the new Liverpool manager, has already revealed his desire to sign a new winger ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Quizzed on his transfer plans earlier this month, Iraola said: “I think it’s difficult to say a number when the market is open, and you have to be always open to new options to improve the squad.
“There are obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players. A winger, for example. We definitely need to sign a winger.
“But there are other situations that we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what’s the cost, how we also see the players we have.
“We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust but it is still not the ideal situation. So, it will depend on a lot of things.”
