Dr Ranj Singh has opened up about coming out as gay while married to a woman after discovering his sexuality in therapy.
The TV medic and former This Morning star, 46, made the realisation about his sexuality when he was living with his wife of seven years, aged 30.
Singh said he discovered the news after getting to where he thought he was supposed to be, stating: “I had the career I’d always wanted, I always wanted a home of my own. I’d ticked all my boxes. So the big question was, why am I still not 100 per cent happy? Why does it still feel like something’s not right? And that’s when therapy brought all of that stuff out.”

He told The Big Issue: “I was married and obviously that relationship broke down and then it was dealing with everybody else, friends and family,” adding that therapy made him realise he was not “the person I thought I should be or thought I was going to be”.
Singh said that, in the moment, it felt like “everything fracturing and then falling apart”, adding: “This perfect life that you’ve imagined and hoped for and dreamt of and worked towards isn’t your perfect life.”
He is now in a relationship with actor James Colebrook.
In 2018, Singh appeared as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, where he lobbied to dance with a man, two years before the BBC show introduced same-sex couples.
He ended up performing with the show’s former professional-turned-It Takes Two presenter Janette Manrara and was eliminated in the seventh week.
Earlier this year, Singh denied claims he had been sacked by Morning Live bosses, but said he was “unable” to appear on the BBC series.

He has been the show’s resident medic since 2020, but when viewers noticed he’d been absent for the past six months, it was speculated there were issues behind the scenes.
After receiving many comments from viewers asking if he’d quit the series, the TV doctor posted on Instagram, explaining: “Have I left Morning Live? No, I haven’t. I’m actually taking a break while I focus on some of my other projects.”
Dr Ranj said he is currently not allowed to be on the show as he’s collaborating with certain brands and needs to adhere to “on-screen editorial guidelines”.
“Whilst I’m doing that corporate work, I can’t be on Morning Live,” he said.
Dr Ranj was responding to reports claiming he’d been sacked and replaced by new medics, including Dr Aziza Sesay and Dr Kasim Ahmed, who appeared on The Traitors in 2025.
However, Dr Ranj told his followers: “I haven’t fallen out with anybody, I haven’t been replaced. My hope is to go back to Morning Live as soon as my brand work is over.”
Dr Ranj also said he has put his licence to practise on hold, stating: “Back in 2024, I had been working in the NHS for about 20 years. I got to the level I wanted to get to. I was a consultant in children’s A&E, my dream job. I absolutely loved it.
“Having done it for a few years I decided I needed a new challenge, a bit of a change. I wanted to pursue some dreams while I still could. I decided to put my licence to practise on hold.
“If you decide you’re not going to do clinical medicine for a bit and you’re not going to see patients directly face to face, it’s not unusual for doctors to do that. I’m still a fully registered doctor. I’m not in any trouble with them whatsoever.”
