Rob Reiner and son argued at Hollywood party, friends say, hours before director and wife found dead: Live

An investigation revealed that Nick Reiner, 32, was “responsible for their deaths,” LAPD said in a statement.

After two bodies — later identified as Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer — were found inside the couples’ home, police launched a probe into the circumstances of their deaths, police said.

The investigation determined that the celebrated couple were the “victims of homicide” and that their son Nick Reiner “was responsible for their deaths,” according to the statement.

The younger Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:15 p.m Sunday. He remains in custody with no bail.

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration on Tuesday.

Nick Reiner, 32, has been booked on suspicion of murder in connection with the deaths of his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer — but now his bail has been dropped.

Earlier Monday, the younger Reiner was being held on $4 million bail, according to booking records and the LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell.

His booking record was updated just after 11 a.m. PT showing no bail.

It’s not immediately clear what led to the change.

The Los Angeles Dodgers offered condolences following the death of Rob Reiner, a longtime baseball fan.

“The Dodgers express our deep sorrow and share our condolences over the passing of longtime fan Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele,” the official X account for the Los Angeles Dodgers wrote.

In 2023, the director told People that he inherited his love of America’s pastime from his father, Carl Reiner. “My dad was a huge, huge baseball fan. He passed it onto me, and I passed it onto Jake,” he said, referring to his son.

In July 2014, the celebrity threw out the first pitch ahead of the game between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

Actor Zooey Deschanel praised Rob Reiner as being a “truly good human being” in a touching tribute.

“My heart is broken. Rob Reiner was the absolute warmest, funniest, most generous of spirits. A truly good human being. An incredible artist and such a playful and fun collaborator. I cherish the time we spent working together and the many films he made that have shaped who I am,” she wrote on Instagram Monday.

“Rob and his lovely wife Michele were always so kind and it brought me so much joy any time I was lucky enough to see them,” she said. “I’m absolutely devastated. Sending so much love to their family and friends.”

Rob Reiner and his 32-year-old son Nick were seen getting into an argument at a party at Conan O’Brien’s home on Saturday night, family friends told the LA Times.

Several people at the party noticed the younger Reiner “acting strangely,” the friends told the outlet.

The iconic director and his wife Michele Singer were found dead at their Brentwood home the next day. Romy, the pair’s youngest child, reportedly found them.

Nick was taken into custody Sunday evening and questioned for hours.

Police confirmed Monday he was booked on suspicion of murder in connection with their deaths.

Maria Shriver posted an emotional tribute to Rob Reiner and Michele Singer, recalling how they had dinner together just this past week.

“We had dinner this past week, and they were in the best place in the their lives: loving one another, loving their friends, their family, their country,” she wrote: “They never gave up on our country. They wanted to make it better. They always, always wanted to make our world better, and they were willing to fight to make it the country they loved.”

“I loved them, and I knew they loved me, for any friend like that is such a gift,” she continued. “ They gave me and all their friends that gift all the time. They loved their kids so much, and they never stopped trying to be really good parents. My love is with their family. I’m so sad for them. I’m devastated, gutted, shocked, stunned, and so deeply saddened, as are all of the people who loved them and who they loved. I hope people remember them as two deeply talented, kind, fun, loving, good, patriotic people who loved each other deeply.”

After Rob Reiner and Michele Singer were killed Sunday at their Los Angeles home, their son Nick was “booked for murder,” according to LAPD.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” a family spokesperson said in a statement.

Tracy Reiner, the biological daughter of Reiner’s ex-wife Penny Marshall and his adopted daughter, told NBC News that she was in “shock” after hearing about their deaths.

“I came from the greatest family ever,” she told the outlet Sunday. “I don’t know what to say, I’m in shock.”

Former president Joe Biden paid tribute to Rob Reiner and his wife in a post on X.

“Jill and I send our deepest condolences to everyone whose lives were touched by Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s extraordinary contributions,” he wrote.

“We take solace in knowing their work will live on for generations to come.”
