Man Utd have JJ Gabriel plan after Ruben Amorim meeting and transfer talks

When Manchester United’s young prodigy JJ Gabriel took to the Old Trafford pitch earlier this week, it seemed almost certain that he would score. Regarded as one of the most promising talents globally, it took him a mere 21 minutes to impress with a stunning goal in front of the Stretford End.

United legends such as Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo all cut their teeth in the FA Youth Cup before making their first-team dreams come true. Despite being just 15 years old, Gabriel has already been involved in first-team training sessions at Carrington, fuelling speculation that he could become United’s youngest Premier League debutant.

The youngster celebrated his 15th birthday in October, ruling out any top-flight appearances this season, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Gabriel breaks United’s record next term.

Those who have mentored Gabriel believe he could smash numerous records throughout his career. There’s a palpable excitement within youth football circles about what Gabriel might achieve.

Some inside the academy even suggest he could be the best talent ever to emerge from United’s academy.

Naturally, United are keen to manage expectations to help Gabriel focus on his development, but those close to the youngster aren’t worried about keeping him grounded. With strong family support and a circle of friends who keep him humble, he remains simply ‘JJ’ to them.

However, there was a compelling reason why United pulled out all the stops last summer to convince Gabriel to stay: such extraordinary talent is rare.

United were alerted that Gabriel was on the brink of joining a European powerhouse, prompting a last-minute meeting at Carrington in a bid to retain the young star.

The presence of Jason Wilcox (director of football) and Omar Berrada (CEO) at this meeting underscores the high esteem in which Gabriel is held. United emphasised that he could become the face of the club, and it was ultimately agreed that the teenage prodigy would stay in Manchester – the player’s final decision was pivotal.

There are opportunities for rivals to snatch academy players at ages 14 and 16. Gabriel has pledged his future to United for at least another two years, but interest from Europe’s top clubs will only grow as he matures, particularly given that he holds a European passport through his parents.

United recently introduced Gabriel to Ruben Amorim. During their conversation, Amorim took time to discuss his philosophy and underscored the importance of hard work, even citing an anecdote about Cristiano Ronaldo as an illustration.

Amorim, who played alongside Ronaldo for Portugal’s national team, shared tales of Ronaldo’s dedication – he was always the first to arrive for training and the last to leave.

Gabriel has been extended an invitation to enjoy a box at the new Old Trafford, set for completion by 2030, and was asked, along with his family, to watch the Premier League opener against Arsenal from the directors’ box.

The fact that brands are already vying to collaborate with Gabriel, who was courted by Adidas before Nike outbid the German firm to secure his signature, is telling.

The young prodigy possesses the skills to lead United to FA Youth Cup victory this season. Alejandro Garnacho leveraged the competition as a launchpad just a few years ago, and it’s anticipated that Gabriel will follow suit.

While the path to a senior debut can be complex for players within academy systems, Gabriel is no ordinary teenager.
