The football season is all but over, with attention slowly turning towards this summer’s World Cup. Players from across leagues in Europe will be heading out to North America as they look to get their hands on football’s biggest prize.
But as the build-up to the tournament continues, the transfer window continues to heat up in the background, with deals already starting to be confirmed. Plenty of big-name stars are expected to be on the move this summer, as teams get their chequebook out to splash the cash.
But this summer, more than any other, some of the biggest moves might not involve any cash exchanging hands at all. That’s because there are plenty of high-profile free agents who will be available for transfer without a fee at all. Express Sport have rounded up all of the biggest free agents still on the lookout for a new club.
One of the stories of the final weekend was Bernardo Silva’s exit from Manchester City. The tricky playmaker spent nine years in East Manchester and was pivotal to the Pep Guardiola era. He’s spoken about moving closer to his Portuguese home, with Barcelona mentioned (yes, that’s Spain, but it’s considerably warmer than Manchester). But what if a top Premier League club chanced their arm instead?
Speaking of which, Mohamed Salah has been one of the faces of the Premier League for some time now, but said an emotional farewell to Liverpool recently. He’s 34 in June, which could put some potential suitors off, but there’s no denying the Egyptian is still a top-quality player.
And finally, from the list of Premier League goodbyes, John Stones spent a decade at City, but has been allowed to leave at the end of the season. Unlike former team-mate Bernardo, Stones isn’t worried about the English weather and could be tempted with another Premier League move.
One of the Premier League’s most impressive performers this season, Harry Wilson notched up 17 goal contributions across 36 appearances, including 10 goals. Liverpool have been mooted as a potential destination for Wilson, who came through the Merseysiders’ academy system.
One last hurrah, anyone? Jamie Vardy’s season in Serie A is over, with the striker set to leave Cremonese as a free agent. He’s a Premier League winner and could definitely do a job as a squad player still. Right?

Another from the list of Premier League departees, Casemiro became a cult hero by the end of his time with Manchester United. He’s past his prime, but has enjoyed some sensational form in recent months.
Talking about sharpshooters, Robert Lewandowski is on the move once again, with his Barcelona stint now over. Granted, Lewandowski is into his late thirties now, but he takes immense pride in his fitness and netted 14 league goals this term.
Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka is set to leave Bayern Munich in the off-season, after eight years with the Bundesliga giants. Arsenal have been mentioned in the conversation, with Goretzka an enticing option to sign on a free.
Jadon Sancho’s time as a contracted United player will be over in a month or so. He’s enjoyed three different loan spells (to varying degrees) over the last couple of years, but will be free to sign for a club on his own terms. Could that be in the Premier League, perhaps?
