A minor anachronistic detail in the first-look images of Enola Holmes 3 has not gone unnoticed by eagle-eyed fans, who have poked fun at it.
The third installment in Netflix’s Victorian-era mystery film series will see Millie Bobby Brown reprise her role as the titular, witty younger sister of famous detective Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill). Set in the 1800s, the film will follow Enola as she makes her way to Malta, “where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before,” according to a logline.
On Monday, the streamer shared several teaser photos, including one showing Brown’s Enola peeking out from behind a stone wall in a white dress, a large diamond ring visible on her perfectly manicured hand.
It is the latter detail that numerous fans have called out, with one quipping on X: “Pulling up to 1885 with a fresh gel set.”
“Y’all see everything omg,” a baffled fan responded, as a third quipped: “Forget the mystery, let’s talk about the time-traveling nail tech who set her up with that almond shape in the 19th century.”

“When you’re trying to blend into the Victorian era but you forgot to budget for a ‘soak off’ before the mission,” a fourth jested, while a fifth joked: “Millie forgot she wasn’t in Stranger Things for a second. She tried to use telekinesis but settled for a French tip.”
“Didn’t know they had LED lamps powered by coal and steam. The Victorian era was much more glamorous than the textbooks say,” another added. “Love how the corset is historically accurate but the nails are from Instagram. Priorities: looking snatched and having the perfect ‘clack’ on a desk.”
The Independent has contacted Netflix for comment.

Besides Brown and Cavill, Enola Holmes 3 will also see the return of Helena Bonham Carter, Louis Partridge, Himesh Patel and Sharon Duncan-Brewster. It arrives four years after Enola Holmes 2 and six years after the original film debuted in 2020. The franchise is loosely inspired by Nancy Springer’s 10-book Enola Holmes series.

Brown confirmed that they had started filming on the third movie last week, writing on Instagram that they are “in production” but “not without [Philip Barantini] at the helm.” Filmmaker Barantini recently directed the Emmy-winning, one-take drama Adolescence, starring Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty.
“And so we begin,” the Stranger Things star added.
Enola Holmes 3 is out July 1 on Netflix.
