Tommy Fury and Jake Paul are in talks to renegotiate fight, confirms dad John

TOMMY FURY and Jake Paul are once again in negotiations to fight one another in the boxing ring, John Fury has confirmed.

In an interview with Free Bets, John Fury, the father of Tyson and Tommy, revealed Paul and Fury were back in talks to arrange a fight between the pair – after the first one was cancelled.

Fury said Paul had given boxing a fresh perspective, bringing new eyes to the sport while making a lot of noise.

Asked about Tommy’s next fight, he said: “We’re looking at the Jake Paul situation but there’s a long way to go with it.

“That’s still in negotiation and up in the air, the lawyers are dealing with it as we speak.”

The pair were scheduled to fight one another at the end of last year, before the bout was cancelled due to a broken rib and a chest infection suffered by the former Love Island star.

John added: “I’m not interested in what Jake Paul does unless we’re fighting him, but he’s good for boxing. He’s bringing new eyes and he’s making a lot of noise.

“We’re trying our best to get the fight with Tommy over the line, but there are a couple of major factors we’re trying to get ironed out and if we can, we’ll do it.”

Any fight that does take place is likely to take place in America according to John, who claimed Paul was scared to leave the states and fight on the road.

However, two boxers who aren’t afraid to fight on the road are Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, who has just left Sky Sports to sign with streaming service DAZN.

Tyson retained the WBC and Ring Heavyweight belts after defeating Dillian Whyte earlier this year, and announced his retirement immediately after.

However, John teased that Tyson could be tempted out of retirement by a fight with AJ, and only AJ.

This will depend of course on Joshua beating Oleksandr Usyk and regaining the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles when the pair hold their rematch later this year.

“I’ll be watching (AJ v Usyk). It’s good to see a fellow Brit trying to climb a mountain,” said John.

“It is a mountain for AJ. It’s an Everest for him, but I think he can do it.

“He’s a big strong guy and it was only a game plan that let him down last time. All AJ has to do is tweak a few things and sheer size and power wins.

“He’s got a funny way of doing things. He beat (Andy) Ruiz in Saudi on the return so why not? If anyone’s capable it’s AJ.

“I hope he does win and who knows, a fight against him might just tempt Tyson. Nobody else will.”
