Former apprentice becomes director at Plymouth recruitment business

Connor Ferguson, who joined Driver Hire Plymouth as an apprentice nine years ago, has been appointed director at the specialist recruitment business.

Established for nearly 40 years, Driver Hire provides temporary and permanent drivers and other logistics staff to local and national organisations in both the public and private sector. If they’re short of staff – perhaps because of illness, holidays, or seasonal demand – Driver Hire will supply them with a suitable replacement.

“Connor was the first apprentice I took on, shortly after buying the franchise in 2011,” says Rod Halling, owner of Driver Hire Plymouth. “After completing his apprenticeship, he became a recruitment consultant and then our Operations Manager. Along the way he’s added Level 3 Apprenticeships in Business Admin and Business Management. He’s been a key part of the Driver Hire Plymouth success story over the past decade.”

Understandably Connor is very excited by the new challenge and the opportunities it presents. “I love working for Driver Hire. There’s a real buzz in meeting clients’ needs and finding work for our team of drivers. Having a share in the business and its future success is something I couldn’t have even imagined when I started here as an apprentice. Driver Hire Plymouth is currently the top performing Driver Hire office across the whole of the UK. Looking ahead, the Budget announcement of a freeport in Plymouth will bring further opportunities. I’m also looking to grow dh Recruitment, the non-driving side of the business.”

Rod Halling added: “I’m delighted that Connor can now look forward to sharing directly in the ongoing success of Driver Hire Plymouth as a director. The plan is for Connor to complete a structured buy-in and, in the fullness of time, become the owner of the business.”
