Australian Open live as Murray to play tennis again and star retires in tears

Juan Carlos Ferrero has been courtside to watch his pupil, Carlos Alcaraz, face Alex de Minaur in an exhibition match at the Australian Open.

Alcaraz blew a 4-1 lead to lose the opening set 7-5. Afterwards, Ferrero gave some insight into what the team worked on during the pre-season.

“A lot of things, I think Carlos is still very young and needs to improve a lot of things,” he told Andrea Petkovic.

“Consistency on his focus is one of the things because sometimes it’s a little bit up and down in the matches. He knows and he’s working on that. And of course, we want to see him playing very good tennis.”

Petkovic also asked about Alcaraz’s new serve – something she already discussed with the world No. 3.

Explaining the changes they made, Ferrero added: “We worked a little bit more on the rhythm because before he was like stopping the movement a little bit up there.

“Now we tried once he starts the movement, following until he finishes the moves. And also the launch of the ball is an area he has to improve with more consistency because he has the speed but not the consistency on the first serve so it’s one of the things that we want to improve.”
