A longstanding mystery of the Star Wars franchise has been cleared up in the first episode of new Disney spin-off The Book of Boba Fett.
The series, which landed on Disney Plus on Wednesday, focuses on former bounty hunter Boba Fett, played by Temuera Morrison.
Boba Fett made his return to screens in the spin-off The Mandalorian last year.
He was a popular character in the original Star Wars trilogy – but was assumed dead after he fell into the Salaac pit during 1983’s Return of the Jedi.
The beastly Sarlacc rests in the sandy well known as the Great Pit of Carkoon and is buried except for its massive mouth and beaked tongue.
Before Boba Fett showed up in The Mandalorian, it was speculated by fans that he could have survived the fall and would therefore, in fact, be alive.
However, there was no real indication how the character would have survived – until the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett aired.
In the episode, Boba Fett is protected by his Beskar armour and is alive in the beast’s stomach.
He then uses the oxygen supply of a dead Stormtrooper before punching through the salaac’s stomach lining and killing it with a flamethrower.
After all that, Boba Fett is then captured by Tusken Raiders and held as a slave.
The new show is set after the era of Jabba The Hutt.
A trailer released earlier this month begins with Boba Fett declaring: “I am not a bounty hunter,” as a voice replies: “I have heard otherwise.”
He adds: “Jabba ruled with fear, I intend to rule with respect,” as he attempts to lure Jabba’s captains to his side.
He continues: “Why speak of conflict when co-operation can make us all rich?”
The trailer also gives a look at Ming-Na Wen reprising her role as a bounty hunter from The Mandalorian, Fennec Shand.
The Book of Boba Fett can be streamed now on Disney Plus, with new episodes arriving each Wednesday.
