Refugee Support Devon proudly invites you to join us on Saturday 26th June, for a day of activities on the historic Quayside in Exeter, to mark Refugee Week 2021.
What? Destination – Devon! A day of drama, discussions, music and dance to mark national Refugee Week
Where? The Transit Shed, Exeter Quay, EX2 4AN
When? 11am – 5pm, Saturday, 26th June 2021
Destination – Devon! will celebrate our region’s centuries-long tradition of welcoming people fleeing danger, through dramatic reenactments, talks and an exhibition in a genuine UN Refugee agency tent, plus music and food.
We will also be marking Exeter-based Refugee Support Devon’s 20th anniversary of helping migrants and refugees to find safety and community across the region.
RSD Chair Jenny Longford says ‘This dynamic day of action will bring to life Exeter’s history as a city of migration. We will also be celebrating the work of Refugee Support Devon over the past 20 years, in helping new arrivals to receive a truly West Country welcome.’
Jeremy Toye, a RSD volunteer helping organise the event, says ‘We want to show how migration has played a key role in developing the character of Exeter and its surroundings, and examine some of the challenges for modern-day refugees arriving in an unfamiliar land. Drama, music and dance will enhance the day’s events, which also include an exhibition, talks and food samples from across the world.”
