Thomas Tuchel has left out nine big-name stars as he confirmed his full 26-man England squad for this summer’s World Cup, with several big names not being included. The Three Lions will go to the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer as they look to win the tournament for the first time since 1966.
Tuchel offered hints about his potential selection for the squad when he named a group of 35 players for the two friendly matches during the March international break.
The England boss has now named the squad for the World Cup, with some shock decisions being made, including snubbing Harry Maguire and Cole Palmer. Ivan Toney has somewhat surprisingly been included in the squad, having scored 42 goals for Al Ahl in the Saudi Pro League this season.
Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson and James Trafford are the goalkeepers chosen by Tuchel for this summer’s World Cup.
In defence, Reece James, John Stones, Marc Guehi, Nico O’Reilly and Tino Livramento have all been included in the squad.
Former Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah is also in the squad following his debut season at Bayer Leverkusen, while Newcastle’s Dan Burn, Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa and Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence will also be on the plane.
However, there is no place in the squad for Maguire, Levi Colwill, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luke Shaw, who have all been left out.
Maguire confirmed that he would be left out of the squad with a post on social media on Thursday.
“I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had,” Maguire wrote.
“I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players, all the best this summer.”

Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson, Kobbie Mainoo, Jordan Henderson, Morgan Rogers, Eberechi Eze and Jude Bellingham have also been selected by Tuchel in the England squad.
However, there is no place in the 26-man squad for Cole Palmer, Morgan Gibbs-White, Adam Wharton or Phil Foden.
Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane, Ollie Watkins and Toney have been selected by Tuchel as the forward options for England at this summer’s tournament.
Despite having an impressive individual season at West Ham, there is no place in the squad for Jarrod Bowen.
England will face New Zealand and Costa Rica in friendly matches ahead of the World Cup, before facing Croatia, Ghana and Panama in the group stages of the competition.
