Man Utd line up £110m double transfer as Marcus Rashford plea made

Manchester United are hoping to conclude a tumultuous campaign with a vital away victory at Brighton as attention turns towards the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have welcomed back former club captain Michael Carrick, who has guided them to third position in the Premier League.

The current head coach is expected to be rewarded for his impressive recent work with a permanent managerial role. No formal announcement has yet been made, though reports indicate it has been delayed pending confirmation of his coaching team.

Carrick is poised to sign a two-year contract, with the option to extend for an additional 12 months. His focus will be squarely on the final match of the campaign at the Amex Stadium against Fabian Hurzeler’s outfit.

Preparations will already be underway to finalise deals for transfer targets this summer, while also permitting certain current players to depart for fresh challenges elsewhere. Here, Express Sport rounds up all the latest emerging from Old Trafford.

Dressing room stance on Rashford transfer

Frenkie de Jong believes Marcus Rashford has “earned the right” to become a permanent addition to Barcelona’s squad next season. The United forward excelled on loan at the Spanish club this season, contributing to their La Liga title triumph and Supercopa success.

Rashford registered 28 goal contributions in 48 appearances for the league champions and is eager to carry on working under Hansi Flick. Now, the mood within the Barcelona dressing room has emerged, with vice-captain De Jong giving his wholehearted backing to the transfer.

The Dutch midfielder told Spanish media outlet Sport: “Yes, he has earned the right to stay. In the minutes he’s played, he’s given us a lot: goals, assists, attacking runs. He’s a fast player who poses a real threat to opposing defences. I’d be delighted if he stays with us.

“I saw him arrive full of enthusiasm. He was very happy to be here, and from the first moment, it was clear he wanted to stay. He’s tried to adapt as best he can, and I’ve seen him doing well.”

United have set their sights on Newcastle‘s Sandro Tonali and Serie A star Ederson as their two primary midfield targets this summer. Sky Sports report that the club are confident of securing both players, whose combined valuation stands at £110million.

United are reportedly locked in a battle with Atletico Madrid for Ederson, though they have already reached an agreement with the player himself. A weekly wage of £100,000 has been put forward, with the club now set to negotiate a fee with Atalanta, who are holding out for £40m.

Reports this week suggest Newcastle will, in all likelihood, sell Tonali, but will not entertain offers below £70m. Casemiro has already confirmed his exit following the Brighton fixture, while players such as Manuel Ugarte are also reportedly considering moves away.
