Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is launched an X-rated rant towards Premier League officials after he was sent off during the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth back in March. The England international has already served a one game ban for the initial red card, and been hit with a fresh ban for his outburst, having pushed Cherries’ forward Evanilson to the ground in the penalty area.
Maguire will serve an additional one-game ban after being charged by the FA for acting in an improper manner towards the fourth official. It means he will miss the clash with Chelsea this weekend and has also been hit with a £30,000 fine.
The FA released a statement saying: “Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Man Utd’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20.
“It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Harry Maguire has until April 2 to provide a response.”
Maguire missed Man United’s defeat to Leeds United on Monday night, but will also miss the clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend. A statement from the FA added: “An independent Regulatory Commission has imposed a one-match suspension and £30,000 fine on Manchester United FC’s Harry Maguire.
“The defender was charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of their Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth on Friday 20 March. It was alleged that Harry Maguire acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal.
“The defender subsequently admitted the charge. The Regulatory Commission imposed his sanctions following a hearing.”
In the report, fourth official Mr M Donohue claims: “In the 78th minute of the game, referee Stuart Attwell sent off Manchester United #5 Harry Maguire. After the VAR check was complete, Maguire, as he was leaving the field of play, approached me and shouted, “You’re a joke. You’re all a f****** joke.” I am reporting the matter to the Football Association for further review.”
Michael Carrick is already without fellow defender Lisandro Martinez after he was shown a straight red card in the defeat to Leeds United on Monday night. The interim head coach desribed that incident as one of the “worset decisions” he’d seen, with the club looking to appeal the red card decision.
It’s understood they do not believe the incident to have been forceful nor intentional.
