Manchester United‘s transfer activity has been overshadowed by their hunt for a new manager, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick emerging as the frontrunners to take the reins until the summer. Solskjaer is due for discussions on Saturday and will meet with director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada to discuss the role, while Darren Fletcher remains at the helm for Sunday’s FA Cup match against Brighton.
However, the transfer window waits for no one. Despite Ruben Amorim suggesting that United wouldn’t be particularly active this month prior to his dismissal, the Red Devils are never far from fresh transfer speculation. Marcus Rashford’s future continues to be a talking point despite his loan spell at Barcelona still having six months to run. The next steps for Kobbie Mainoo also need to be determined following Amorim’s departure.
Here is a round-up of the latest transfer news and rumours circulating around Old Trafford…
Transfer given green light
Gabriele Biancheri has been granted permission to depart Manchester United on loan this month, according to Football Insider.
Biancheri, who progressed through the academy at Cardiff, has featured in training sessions with United’s senior squad this season.
The 19-year-old has now been informed that he can seek another club before the transfer window closes.
Several EFL clubs are reported to have already expressed interest in the teenager.
Rashford conspiracy theory emerges
Ex-Barcelona midfielder Gaizka Mendieta suggests that Marcus Rashford could be orchestrating a move for Kobbie Mainoo to Barcelona.
Mainoo has found game time hard to come by this season and has been consistently linked with a move away.
Amorim’s departure could alter his plans, but Mendieta wouldn’t be surprised if Mainoo and Rashford have been in contact.
Speaking to BOYLE Sports, he said: “Could Kobbie Mainoo go abroad and be a success? We’ve seen it happen. Players can go abroad and it motivates them to be successful.
“Mainoo is an exciting young player and I think La Liga would really suit him. He might well have been in contact with Marcus Rashford about joining Barcelona.
“Who knows if they could play together again, as a football fan, I would be excited to see Mainoo in Spain.”
