Despite claiming just weeks ago that he was on the verge of signing a new contract, Ibrahima Konate is set to leave Liverpool.
The French defender can depart as a free transfer this summer and follow Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson out the door.
Last month, after beating Everton 2-1, Konate confirmed that an agreement on a new deal was “close”.
He added: “For sure there is a big chance I’m here next season. This is what I always wanted. I’m waiting to sort the contract but when everything is sorted you will have to ask (sporting director) Richard Hughes what I said to him in September, November and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet.”
But Konate has made a U-turn and is leaving Liverpool.
He will not renew his contract and instead leave without a transfer fee.
