Raheem Sterling ‘arrested on suspicion of drug driving after Lamborghini crash’

Raheem Sterling has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after allegedly crashing his Lamborghini on the motorway. The former Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea winger was reportedly pulled over by police on the M3 in Hampshire on Thursday morning. Sterling, who now plays for Feyenoord, has been bailed pending further inquiries, according to The Sun.

Sterling is reportedly suspected of driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. Class C drugs include tranquillisers such as valium, plus steroids, laughing gas and GHB. Express Sport have approached Hampshire Police for comment.

In a statement to The Sun, the force said: “Just before 9.00am on Thursday, we received reports that a Lamborghini was in collision with barriers on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

“The driver, a 31-year-old man, from Berkshire, has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. He has been bailed while our enquiries continue.”

Sterling, 31, began his football career at Queens Park Rangers before joining Liverpool‘s academy at the age of 15. He broke into the senior squad and became a fan favourite at Anfield before he was snapped up by Manchester City in 2015.

He enjoyed a trophy-laden stint at the Etihad Stadium, winning multiple titles over his seven-year spell on their books.

The forward joined Chelsea on a seven-year contract in 2022 but never really managed to get going at Stamford Bridge.

Sterling went on loan to Arsenal for the duration of the 2024/25 season, but the Gunners weren’t interested in signing him permanently and he was sent back to west London.

He was effectively exiled at the start of last season and saw his contract terminated by mutual consent in January. He joined Feyenoord on a free transfer, playing eight times for the Dutch club in the second half of the season.

Sterling was previously a regular for England, winning 82 caps since making his debut in 2012. He shone at Euro 2020 as the Three Lions reached the final, eventually losing to Italy on penalties, but has not played internationally since 2022.
