Carlos Alcaraz has revealed that his and Jannik Sinner’s rivals joke about their dominance in the locker room. Alcaraz and Sinner sit thousands of points clear at the top of the rankings, with the Italian returning to the top spot after winning their tense Monte Carlo Masters final on Sunday.
The last time neither Alcaraz nor Sinner was crowned the champion of an event they both entered came two years ago at the 2024 Madrid Open. It’s something the rest of the field is well aware of. And while the world Nos. 1 and 2 don’t talk about it themselves, some of their colleagues and competitors on the ATP Tour are happy to.
After setting up his 17th meeting with Sinner, Alcaraz explained that they didn’t speak about their own dominant streak. “Well, not really, something that we don’t talk too much about. But there are some players that make some jokes about it,” the Spanish superstar admitted.
“But I don’t know. I’m just trying to do my best in every match, in every tournament, and I would say Jannik, same thing. Just happy to see ourselves doing great in every tournament we play.
“The consistency we have, I think it’s great. Every time that we play against each other, we raise our level to the top. So I would say in a way that the people are waiting for us to meet in every tournament.”
However, Alcaraz still doesn’t think he and Sinner are untouchable – and the fact that it took them until April to face off in 2026 shows that. “The thing is, we could say we’re not like superheroes and we’re gonna win every match,” he added.
“It’s going to be the first meeting in 2026, so that means that we lost in the previous rounds before. So let’s see. I’m seeing like other players, as well, catching us up, and let’s see how it’s gonna be.
“Personally, I’m just happy that every time that I lose or every time that Jannik loses, I think we learn from that loss, and then we come back the next tournament even better. So to see that stats for me, I’m just feeling great.”
