Drake has staked a substantial £735,000 ($1million) wager on the New England Patriots to triumph over the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl LX. Yet supporters of Mike Vrabel’s team may have cause for concern given the Canadian rapper’s historical betting form.
The artist behind ‘Hotline Bling’ and ‘One Dance’ couldn’t resist taking a punt ahead of Sunday evening’s showpiece at the Levi’s Stadium, backing one final Vrabel victory. Sharing his betting slip on Instagram, Drake wrote: “Bet against me if you dare,” accompanied by several laughing emojis. His bet, placed with Stake, offered odds of nearly 2/1 (2.95 in American betting terms), and will deliver a windfall of £2.1m ($2.95m) should the Patriots claim their first Vince Lombardi trophy since 2018.
However, given the 39-year-old’s string of unsuccessful wagers in recent years, his Instagram followers sarcastically predicted that the Seahawks will emerge victorious at Super Bowl LX. One commenter said: “Man oh man seahawks winning,” attracting nearly 18,000 likes, while another said: “Congrats to the Seahawks.”
A third joked: “Seahawks are officially super bowl champions,” as a fourth individual quipped: “Yup we know how this goes.” In December, Drake placed a hefty wager on Jake Paul to defeat Anthony Joshua ahead of their Miami showdown.
That’s not to mention unsuccessful wagers on the Edmonton Oilers to claim the 2024 Stanley Cup, Canada to overcome Argentina in the Copa America semi-finals, Israel Adesanya to beat Alex Pereira at UFC 281 in November 2022, and Oklahoma City Thunder to defeat the Indiana Pacers in last year’s NBA Finals. Regarding the NFL, Drake has made 19 selections excluding his Super Bowl LX gamble, winning six of his bets and losing a remarkable 13.
Cricket remains the only sport where the rap superstar maintains a winning record, with three successful punts earning him a combined return of £1.9m ($2.65m). It comes as the Seahawks have been backed by bookmakers going into the Big Game, with Paddy Power pricing Mike MacDonald’s side at 4/9 compared to the Patriots’ odds of 9/5.
