Manchester United elected not to bring in any first-team reinforcements with the January transfer window now shut. However, interim boss Michael Carrick has won in his opening three fixtures at the helm. Following a summer that saw them acquire players such as Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, United decided against investing any funds during the winter market.

These signings were brought in for head coach Ruben Amorim, though he was dismissed in January following a 14-month tenure in charge. Carrick has assumed control and following victories over Manchester City and Arsenal, his team secured a dramatic late 3-2 triumph over Fulham to maintain a perfect record of three wins from three.

Beyond the club, loanee Marcus Rashford continues to showcase his talents at Barcelona. The England striker has suffered a setback off the field, however, with a United legend overlooking the 28-year-old. Here, Express Sport looks at the latest news from Old Trafford.

Rashford moved to Barcelona during the summer and has since made a considerable impression under Hansi Flick. He has registered 10 goals across all competitions.

Despite this loan spell proving so productive, United legend Nani remains unconvinced that Rashford compares favourably to one of his Barcelona colleagues, Lamine Yamal. In a video shared on social media for Goal, Nani was tasked with comparing some of Europe’s finest attacking talents.

Initially, the Portuguese legend was asked to pick between Barcelona’s Yamal and Chelsea prospect Estevao. He plumped for the former.

Next, Rashford and Bukayo Saka were presented to Nani for his judgement. He selected Rashford before making several additional choices.

In the subsequent round of selections, it was Rashford and team-mate Yamal who were pitted against each other.

At this point, Nani overlooked the United loanee and declared: “Right now? Lamine Yamal.”

To be fair to Rashford, the 39-year-old subsequently selected Yamal as his top choice from all the players he was asked about, explaining: “He’s my type of player.”

In January, Rashford’s colleague at his parent club, Casemiro, was subject to a dramatic announcement. It was confirmed that the Brazilian is poised to leave at the conclusion of the season when his contract expires.

A farewell video was published last month with United making it abundantly clear that the 33-year-old will not continue at the club beyond the summer. However, the Brazilian has excelled in his recent outings.

Under Carrick’s guidance, Casemiro has appeared assured in the centre of the park and secured a goal and an assist in the victory over Fulham. Supporters have urged United to reverse their decision to allow Casemiro’s departure, but Sky Sports claim that they will not be changing course.

The report suggests that whilst supporters are questioning why United are allowing the Brazilian to depart, he remains one of the club’s highest earners, will shortly turn 34, and United have established a long-term strategy for their midfield.

All of these factors, they claim, contribute to the club’s resolute position, preventing any kind of reversal regarding Casemiro and the player staying at Old Trafford.
