Man Utd next manager LIVE: Top target, Amorim payoff, WhatApp messages leaked

United’s best option to replace Ruben Amorim is Enzo Maresca. The Italian’s departure from Chelsea may have drawn similarities with Amorim’s acrimonious split with United and that may stop the club’s hierarchy from hiring him.

But unlike Amorim, Maresca has a proven track record of success in English football. His work at Leicester City was impressive – comfortably guiding them back into the Premier League.

His record with Chelsea is what makes him stand out though. Winning trophies at a club which struggled to win silverware in recent seasons, as well as guiding the Blues back into the Champions League, should put him top of United’s shortlist.

Not to mention the experience he has of working with Chelsea’s youthful squad – a tradition important to United – makes him a good fit. There are still question marks over whether he would be good enough to guide a team to win the biggest trophies.

However, similar accusations could be levelled at Arsenal‘s Mikel Arteta, and he’s at least made the Gunners a competent title-challenging team who are Champions League regulars again. For where United currently are – Maresca’s the man.
