The fans are still chattering and making their way back to their seats as the changeover ends and Sinner hits his first serve.
Someone calls out “come on Jannik” as the top seed misses his first serve while 15-0 up. It doesn’t help – he nets the ball in the next rally.
Sinner places the ball right in the corner, forcing Alcaraz wide, and rushes to the net to attempt to hit a volley in the open space but again he sets the ball into the net and it’s 30-30.
With Sinner leading 40-30, one of Alcaraz’s shots skims the net tape and goes over. The Spaniard nails the ball across the court and it lands perfectly on the line. Sinner misjudges it and sends the ball out as Alcaraz apologises.
Now Alcaraz is the one looking annoyed as the ball sails into the air and outside of the lines, and he gestures towards his box.
At game point on Sinner’s serve, someone pops a bottle of champagne open and the cork lands on the court. It causes a brief stoppage, and the umpire asks the fans not to open bottle before a serve. The rest of the crowd starts booing. Very Wimbledon.
It seems to distract the top seed, who makes a mistake to get back to deuce.
Alcaraz responds to a dropshot with one of his own but Sinner makes the winner and he’s got game point again.
He shouts “let’s go” again as he finally holds and extends his lead in this set.
