Everton want to bring John Stones back to Merseyside nine years after he left to join Manchester City.

The injury prone England international, who just turned 31, has barely played in the last two seasons due to fitness problems.

But according to the Mirror the Toffees want to make him a regular starter at their new Bramley-Moore Dock home.

Stones is on a £250,000-a-week contract at City but regular football would help his chances of playing for England in the 2026 World Cup.

If he was willing to take a pay cut, he’d be a key player for Everton with Jarrad Branthwaite potentially departing this summer. City are among his admirers.
