Former world No. 53 Denis Kudla immediately entered retirement as team USA won the United Cup on Sunday.

The 32-year-old played and won his final match – a mixed doubles contest alongside Desirae Krawczyk – on Saturday and announced the news on Instagram.

“Thank you Tennis, This journey has come to an end,” Kudla wrote.

The American got the best send-off as he was on the bench when Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz sealed victory for their country at the United Cup.

After their title win, the retiring star said: “It’s incredible to retire in this way, you know, representing my country, something that’s super special, being with this group right here.

“How rare it is to actually end my career on a W. Not too many people actually get to do that. To end on a happy note, I think it was super special. I didn’t expect the emotions to come over me at all, but I’m super grateful for the opportunity.”

Kudla has already started coaching compatriot Reilly Opelka. And their future together looks bright – the 6’11 tennis ace beat Novak Djokovic en route to the Brisbane final last week.
