Fans’ Footballer of the Year nominees as Man Utd and Arsenal stars make list

The nominees for the Fans’ Footballer of the Year award have been revealed, with a quarter of the shortlist made up of Manchester City stars.

Rodri, who became the first City player to win the Ballon d’Or in October, made the list alongside team-mate Phil Foden, while WSL goal machine Khadija Shaw was also rewarded for a stellar year.

Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have also been nominated, with both stars impressing despite uncertainty around their futures at Anfield. Salah is looking to win the award for the third time in five years after racking up 38 goal contributions so far in 2024.

Arsenal are the only other club to have multiple nominees, with Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka being recognised, while Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer also on the shortlist.

Last year saw Newcastle United full-back Kieran Tripper claim the top award after seeing off competition from Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland. It was the second successive year a Magpies man won the crown, with Bruno Guimaraes winning in 2022.

And the 2024 edition could complete a hat-trick of wins for the St James’ Park side after Anthony Gordon was named among the 12 nominees. The former Everton winger has had his best year to date, helping Newcastle to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League and establishing himself as England’s starting left-winger under interim boss Lee Carsley.

Gordon’s international team-mate Ollie Watkins is also included after leading Aston Villa to a Champions League finish earlier this year, while Bellingham – the only nominee not to play their football in England – completes the set.

The Fans’ Footballer of the Year award runs in two parts, with the 12-player national award running concurrently with 20 club-specific votes to determine every Premier League club’s top performer from 2024. The winner of both awards is decided exclusively by fans, which is why your vote is so important.
