Conor McGregor has announced that Xzibit has joined his music label.
The Irishman initially broke into the public eye through UFC, before branching into boxing and developing his wealth further.
The 36-year-old now owns a portfolio of pubs and alcohol brands, and he recently announced that he was turning his attention to attempting to conquer the music industry. McGregor has launched his own label, Greenback Records.
The label is still building up its crop of artists, though McGregor has now announced his first marquee acquisition – Xzibit. The rapper has been a key figure in the world of hip-hop since the mid-90s, and McGregor is looking forward to helping the former Pimp My Ride actor break back onto the scene.
McGregor announced on Instagram that Xzibit would be releasing new music for the first time since 2012, with the album ‘Kingmaker’ scheduled to be dropped on October 11. The American star will then be performing the following day at a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship event, in what could kickstart his resurgence after a 12-year break.
Whilst sitting in the back of his Rolls Royce, the former UFC star was filmed saying: “Xzibit, my man, welcome to the team.
“We are so excited to launch some new, fresh music out of yourself, an icon in the game and a legend in the industry. Let’s go, Xzibit. Let’s go, Greenback Records.”
The post received over 100,000 likes, with many of McGregor’s followers sharing their surprise to see the Irishman working with Xzibit.
McGregor will be hoping that the American is the first of many artists who are willing to work with Greenback Records, especially after he declared that he feels the industry as a whole needs an ‘overhaul’.
Speaking earlier this year, he explained: “I am excited to create Ireland’s first major record label, in an industry that I have had great interest in for some time.
“To be able to come in and offer music artists a fair deal and properly reward them for their talent. This industry, like others, has needed an overhaul for a long time. I am excited for myself, McGregor Sports & Entertainment, to partner with Richard Buck and Julian O’Brien as founders to bring Greenback Records to life!”
