The draw for the league phase of the Champions League, which took place in Monaco, threw up some exciting ties. Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Celtic and Aston Villa all discovered their eight opponents for the first stage of the competition, which is taking a new format this season.
City will face Inter Milan, PSG, Club Brugge, Juventus, Feyenoord, Sporting, Sparta Praha and Slovan Bratislava. Liverpool, meanwhile, go up against Real Madrid, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan, Lille, PSV Eindhoven, Bologna and Girona.
Arsenal were drawn against PSG, Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk, Atalanta, Dinamo Zagreb, Sporting, Monaco and Girona. Celtic will play RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge, Atalanta, Young Boys, Dinamo Zagreb, Slovan Bratislava and Aston Villa.
Villa, making their first appearance in the Champions League since it was rebranded in 1992, were drawn against Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Juventus, Club Brugge, Celtic, Young Boys, Bologna and Monaco.
