Not every Oscars ceremony results in a happy audience consensus over the winners; sometimes, some ceremonies have caused major upsets around who and what emerged victorious.

It wasn’t a fumble on the level of the infamous La La Land / Moonlight debacle of 2017, but Al Pacino’s unusual form of announcing the Best Picture winner at Sunday’s Oscars still sowed confusion among viewers.

As had been predicted by most, Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb epic Oppenheimer scooped the night’s highest honour, Best Picture.

Although there was significant competition from the likes of Poor Things, the Cillian Murphy-led drama was the favourite to win – and according to columnist Louis Chilton, for good reason.

He wrote of Oppenheimer’s win: “It speaks to a renewed appetite for serious, grown-up films, about real-world issues. To say it has ‘saved cinema’ is reductive – but if any film can make that claim, it’s this one.”

Wes Anderson won his very first Oscar on Sunday, scooping the statuette for Best Live Action Short Film for The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

Despite it being a major career achievement, the filmmaker wasn’t present to accept the award – however, Anderson had a very understandable reason for skipping the ceremony.

If you thought Gosling’s dance scene looked familiar, you’d be right. It seems that Gosling and his choreographers made a number of references to Marilyn Monroe’s iconic performance of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in the 1953 film, Gentleman Prefer Blondes.

After Jimmy Kimmel’s pretty tepid and unfunny performance, many are calling for The Bear star to step in for the 2025 ceremony.

The calls came after Mulaney left the audiences in stitches with his “hilarious” introduction for the Achievement in Sound category.

One of the biggest highlights of the night had to be Barbie star Ryan Gosling performance of “I’m Just Ken”.

He began his performance in the crowd, sitting in his seat wearing a hot pink suit embellished with rhinestones, matching gloves, a cowboy hat, and a pair of sunglasses.

The actor then went on to dance onstage alongside an entourage of back-up dancers in matching hats.
