It seems Dan Ashworth won’t be able to focus solely on operations at Manchester United irrespective as to whether Newcastle’s Sporting Director makes his expected move. Ashworth, 52, has been placed on gardening leave by the north-east club, who are reportedly furious at the lack of dialogue from their Premier League rivals.
And they’ve demanded £15million from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co if Ashworth is to be granted an early release from his contract. Otherwise, United face a wait of around 20 months before the ex-West Brom and Brighton man can begin work at the club, with his deal not expiring until late 2025.
