Transfer news LIVE as Liverpool eye £68m move and Tottenham complete hijack

Premier League clubs found themselves handicapped by the league’s profit and sustainability regulations in January.

Several teams who might otherwise have spent heavily in the winter market – including Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle – were limited in what they could do in the window.

Everton’s 10-point deduction and further charges levelled at the Toffees and Nottingham Forest have prompted other clubs to take the regulations more seriously.

The result was a relatively quiet transfer window. Crystal Palace were the league’s biggest spenders – with their £22m deal for Adam Wharton make up a large proportion of their total £28.5m outlay.

A benefit of the regulations is that plenty of young talent will get opportunities while squads remain weaker.

Lewis Miley, Kobbie Mainoo and Oscar Bobb have benefitted from regular Premier League football this season.
