Southampton are among the sides monitoring MTK Budapest midfielder Mihaly Kata with a view to making a move either before the January deadline or in the summer, Express Sport understands.

The Saints have registered their interest in the 21-year-old, who is already a senior Hungarian international.

Eredivisie outfit SC Heerenveen are also in the hunt, as well as City Football Group (CFG).

CFG have a healthy working relationship with MTK Budapest due to business conducted in the recent past.

Kata and his camp are open to offers and a move this winter remains a possibility, despite the fast-approaching transfer deadline.
