Golden Globes 2024 – live: How to watch as stars including Taylor Swift get ready to hit the red carpet

Here’s your rundown of the awards set to be handed out later tonight at this year’s Golden Globes:

Who doesn’t love playing fashion police? The red carpets of award shows are the most exciting element for many, and 2024’s ceremony will surely bring a fun selection of looks to critique from the comfort of our sofas.

Here’s a look back at the heavy hitters from last year’s event, from Billy Porter to Lily James:

Up until 2023, the Golden Globe Awards were run by a parent organisation called the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

However, in 2021 a Los Angeles Times exposé accused the HFPA of a lack of diversity in its voting membership as well as “ethical lapses” in its business conduct. At the time, the organisation did not have a single Black member.

It was accused of a “culture of corruption”, where companies were allegedly able to buy nominations or wins.

As a result, more than 100 public relations firms announced they would no longer work with the Globes, and stars such as Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson condemned the HFPA. Cruise handed back his three trophies and Johannsson urged a boycott and recalled facing “sexist questions and remarks by certain HFPA members that bordered on sexual harassment”.

The broadcast for 2022 was cancelled and the awards went ahead without any big stars in attendance to present or collect the prizes.

In June 2023, California’s attorney general approved a plan to dissolve the Hollywood Foreign Press Association entirely – a radical move which many hope is a good indicator for the future of diversity and fairness conversations in entertainment going forward.

The Independent’s Adam White wrote in his piece on Golden Globes predictions: “First of all: haha. The introduction of a category expressly designed to reward movies for making a ton of money is one of the lamer decisions by the Globes in recent years. And there have been a lot of lame decisions!”

Ouch. Still, someone has to take home the statuette for money made in cinemas! Here’s the rundown of nominees:

Though it’s not always on the mark, the Golden Globes are considered to be a good marker of who and what later awards ceremonies will recognise in their nominations – namely, the Oscars.

Though Jo Koy is the main host for the ceremony, he’ll be joined be a slew of famous faces to hand out individual awards.

Amanda Seyfried, Angela Bassett, Gabriel Macht, George Lopez, Julia Garner, Justin Hartley, Michelle Yeoh, Patrick J Adams and Will Ferrell are all expected to present later tonight.

The awards will take place on Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, beginning at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT.
