Man Utd close in on fourth January deal as Newcastle plot Bellingham move

Mikel Arteta has revealed that there is a possibility that Arsenal do not make any signings this month, despite speculation that the Spaniard is keen to acquire the services of a striker and left-back.

Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday, the 41-year-old was asked whether his side are targeting a left-back amid reports of signing a defender being a priority in North London, to which he replied: “We are open for the transfer market but the emphasis is on making the most of what we have. We will work with the club to see if we have any options.”

Probed as to whether this means that Arsenal may not sign any players this month and instead wait until the end of the season to begin their spending again, Arteta replied: “That’s a possibility.”
