Luke Littler was denied the perfect end to his World Darts Championship fairytale as Luke Humphries emerged victorious in last night’s final at Alexandra Palace. The world’s top-ranked player fought hard to earn a 7-4 victory on the biggest stage in darts, battling back from 4-2 down to win five sets on the bounce.
The result saw Littler miss out on becoming the sport’s youngest ever world champion after his remarkable rise to stardom over the last few weeks. He later issued a warning to his rivals by vowing to go one better in his next world final, with many still expecting Littler to be a future great of darts.
“It’s been unbelievable,” he told Sky Sports after the match. “I’m happy. I’m in the top 32 [in the rankings] and I finished runner-up on my debut [at the World Darts Championship]. It’s unbelievable. I may not get to another final for five or 10 years, we don’t know, but I can say I’m a runner-up. Now I want to go and win it.”
