The January transfer window is now open and Hugo Lloris is the first major Premier League star out of the door. The French shot-stopper has completed a permanent switch to MLS side Los Angeles FC after half a season spent confined to the bench at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the arrival of Gugilermo Vicario in the summer.
Lloris’ move to the United States ends an 11-year stint at Spurs, where the 37-year-old made 477 appearances, the seventh most in the club’s history. Elsewhere, Manchester City have exchanged contracts with River Plate to seal an agreement for Argentine wonderkid Claudio Echeverri.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has been branded the ‘new Lionel Messi’ by the Argentine press and will remain at River Plate until December 2024 before travelling to Europe. He is reportedly set to sign a six-year deal.
