Jack Grealish 'devastated' as Man City star breaks silence on burglary

Jack Grealish has opened up on his ‘devastation’ after thieves reportedly made off with £1million worth of jewellery while the winger was playing for Manchester City last Wednesday. Members of Grealish’s family were reportedly watching the 28-year-old play for the Premier League champions when burglars made their way into his £5.6million property.

Grealish purchased the abode last year but only moved in last month. An alarm is believed to have been raised after frantic barking was heard from upstairs.

The England international has now broken his silence on the ordeal with a message for fans on Instagram. He says that his family were unscathed and wished his followers a happy new year.

“I can’t begin to explain how devastated I am over the burglary that took place at my home a few days ago,” Grealish said on Instagram.

“My family mean the world to me and nothing is more important than ensuring their safety. This has been a traumatic experience for all of us, I am just so grateful that nobody was hurt.

“I have had so many amazing experiences and achievements over the last 12 months, but to be honest the best year of my life in football now doesn’t feel like something I can celebrate.

“The people that commit these terrible crimes have no idea of the damage they cause to peoples lives. I hope they are found and brought to justice so no other family has to go through what we have.

“I appreciate the messages from everyone and the support from my friends, teammates and the club. On a more positive note, I’d like to thank everyone for their support throughout this past year, I wish you and your family a happy 2024.”

Police reportedly circled the area for 20-30 minutes and warned local residents of an at-large burglar. Grealish rushed home from Merseyside and was pictured scanning the paths around his house on Thursday morning.

City head coach Pep Guardiola has warned Premier League players to limit what they share on social media. It comes after a string of burglaries on the homes of top-flight stars over the last few years, including City defender Joao Cancelo.

Guardiola said: “Jewellery, money, whatever – it’s tough, and the family being there is difficult to process. It’s tough for Jack, as it was with Joao before.”

Grealish played the full 90 minutes against Everton. City won 3-1 to reignite their Premier League title hopes. They are now only five points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand over the Anfield outfit.
