“It’s amazing,” Kecmanovic said of his 7-6(2) 7-6(6) victory over Jack Draper in the first singles rubber. “I definitely felt the pressure, the weight of the moment but I’m super happy that I was able to stay calm, stay focused and get the win.”

Asked what captain Viktor Troicki told him before the match, the 24-year-old replied: “A lot of stuff, a lot of things but he’s been amazing he has so much experience also winning this so to have him here is amazing.”

Addressing the rest of team Serbia, headed up by world No 1 Novak Djokovic, he continued: “I feel lucky to be part of this group of course with Novak leading us but also the other guys. Filip, Dusan, Laslo, Hamad, Nikola who is not here with us but he was also part of the team. It’s just a group of guys who have been playing unbelievable, who have great careers, it just feels good to be a part of that group who has been doing so well.”
