VAR is the hot topic of discussion once again this week after it took the video assistant five minutes to decide whether or not to rule Jay Rodriguez’s last-gasp equaliser at the Vitality Stadium offside. In the end, they chose to stick with the on-field decision to chalk it off but the amount of time it took for them to come to that conclusion left Burnley and Bournemouth fans restless.
Chants of “this is embarrassing” rang around the ground as VAR frantically combed through the footage. But the assistants could be forgiven for their thoroughness given the recent controversy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that saw Luis Diaz’s goal wrongfully disallowed due to a lapse in concentration from Darren England.
