ACKLAM EXPRESS 1

ACK at back. Placed in a Group 2 at best in Dubai but poor on comeback at Chester and has a mountain to climb.

ARECIBO 3

BO selecta. Cracking second in this last year and good third in Temple Stakes at Haydock despite missing the kick. Likes the track and could hit the frame at big odds.

EQUILATERAL 2

FLIPPING Eq. Good form in hot races out in Dubai and likes this trip on any ground. Has been off for 18 months and so entitled to need this.

EXISTENT 2

TENT pegged. Solid handicapper who has shown his best on the all-weather over this trip. Held behind a few of these at Haydock so needs to improve but capable of better.

GOLDEN PAL 4

PUNTERS Pal. Absolute speedball who won at the Breeders’ Cup and took a Grade 2 to warm up for this. Was collared on the line in the 2020 Norfolk Stakes and the worry is that could happen again but trainer is very confident.

KHAADEM 2

KHAAD sharp. Battled well to win a Newmarket Group 3 on comeback and likes this trip. Best when making all and will be taken on for the lead.

KING’S LYNN 3

LYNN the mix. Held on for the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock last time and was a good third in last year’s Wokingham so likes the track. Maybe just short of this level but won’t be far away.

LAZULI 3

LAZ a chance. Impressive in Dubai when winning over this trip and likes fast ground. Versatile on tactics and can outrun his odds for Godolphin.

LOGO HUNTER 1

LOG out. Multiple Listed winner but has come up short whenever tackling this level. Needs a major step forward.

MAN OF PROMISE 4

ON a Promise. Third in a Dubai Grade 1 over 6f last time but he has plenty of pace. Connections respected and he has more to offer.

MONDAMMEJ 1

DAMM it. Not beaten far in the Temple at Haydock but has yet to win beyond handicap level. Likes this trip but will surely come up short.

NATURE STRIP 4

NATURE calls. Has won £9m and arguably the best sprinter in the world at his best with several Grade 1 victories in Australia. Has been doing his best over 6f but has lots of pace. The worry is the pick of his form has been on soft ground.

PONNTOS 2

PONN the case. Trained in Czech Republic, won a Longchamp Group 3 well last time and is best over this trip. Hard to assess his form but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him run well.

SAINT LAWRENCE 1

SAINT sinner. Almost two years since his last win and was held in Group 3 company at Newmarket on comeback before a modest effort in France. Hard to fancy.

TIS MARVELLOUS 3

BOOKIES in Tis. Has won here four times and was a decent fourth in this two years ago and has also finished second in the Wokingham. All his wins have come over this trip and he handles any ground. Getting on now but worth an each-way look with extra place bookies.

TWILIGHT CALLS 5

BRIGHT Twilight. Has run well all three starts this season with a good Newmarket win followed by two excellent efforts at Group level. Was unlucky to finish second in the Temple Stakes at Haydock latest and the booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye. Major player here.

MOONEISTA 3

MOON must shine. Group 2 winner over this trip last season and went close at The Curragh last time. Needs more at this high level but is only four and there could be more to come.

WINTER POWER 4

WINTER warmer. Won the Nunthorpe at York last season over this trip on fast ground and could get those conditions for the first time since. Was only ninth in this last year but has probably improved.

And the winner is…

TWILIGHT CALLS can light up the King’s Stand Stakes (3.40).

He has been in good form this season and was unlucky to finish only second in the Temple Stakes at Haydock last time. He likes to come from off a strong pace and is guaranteed get that here.

Two raiders look the biggest threat. Wesley Ward’s Golden Pal won at the Breeders’ Cup and has blazing speed. He will blast off from the front and will take a lot of catching – although American sprinters can be caught out by the straight track and he was nabbed on the line in the 2020 Norfolk Stakes.

Aussie hope Nature Strip has won £9m in a glittering career and is respected – although his best has come on soft ground and it may be a bit firm for him.
