Son of Brian

Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough has been following in his legendary father Brian’s footsteps since 1998 when he started his managerial career at Burton Albion.

Nigel would love to emulate the success of his dad, who took Derby from the Second Division to the First Division, although he has a much tougher task ahead of him as he starts off from League Two.

The 56-year-old is no stranger to Wembley classics as he played at the old stadium several times and has also managed at the new one during his time with Sheffield United.

Clough scored two goals in the 1989 League Cup Final as Nottingham Forest beat Luton and also played the following year as Forest won it again with a 1-0 win over Oldham, while playing for his father.

As a manager, he guided United to an FA Cup semi-final at the national stadium in 2014 but lost 5-3 to Hull.

But this is the first ever time he emulates his dad with an actual Wembley walk as he leads a team out onto the sacred turf before a final – Brian did it with Leeds and Forest
