QPR had a strong start to the season, and were in the play-off positions as recently as mid-March, before a run of seven defeats in nine games towards the end of the season meant they ended up in 11th.

Wycombe boss Ainsworth spent the best part of seven years as a player at Loftus Road, and went on to become assistant manager with the West London side.

He became Wycombe boss in 2012, making him the second longest serving manager in the top four division of English football.

The 49-year-old is perhaps best known managerially for getting Wycombe promoted to the Championship in 2019-20 when they had odds of 7/2 to be relegated to League Two at the start of the season.

The Chairboys almost defeated the odds again by staying up the following season, but were relegated by just one point back down to League One.

Wycombe again reached the play-off final this season, but couldn’t get past Sunderland, as they lost 2-0 at Wembley.

Former Malmo manager and Champions League winner with AC Milan Tomasson is a surprise name linked with the QPR job.

The former Denmark international has won two league titles in Sweden with Malmo and managed to take them to the Champions League group stage, before leaving the role in December last year.

Sky Bet price the joint-top scoring Danish footballer of all time at 5/2 to take the QPR job.

36-year-old MK Dons manager Liam Manning is also close in the running, with Sky Bet pricing him at 4/1 to take over. Manning led the Dons to a third place finish in League One this season but lost to Ainsworth’s Wycombe in the semi-final.

Sol Campbell is another big name linked with the managerial position at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

The former England international has been without a managerial job since leaving his job with Southend in 2020 after being relegated from League One, and is touted at 10/1 to replace Warburton.
