Stranger Things: season four trailer is here

ark times are ahead for the town of Hawkins, Indiana in the new trailer for Stranger Things.

Netflix dropped its hotly-anticipated trailer for the fourth season of the hit show on Tuesday, and it looks set to be just as tense as the previous three.

In the trailer, we revisit the ruins of the doorway to the Upside-Down that was destroyed in the last season’s finale.

“You’ve broken everything,” a voice says. “Your suffering is almost at an end.”

The trailer then cuts to a montage of Max speaking to her dead step-brother Billy Hargrove at his grave.

“Everything’s been a total disaster,” she tells him.

“For a while we tried to be happy, normal. I know it’s impossible.”

At the same time, the Byers family is trying to adjust to life away from Hawkins, before the trailer cuts to glimpses of the Upside-Down, suggesting they may have a hard time breaking away.

We also see fan favourites Steve and Nancy – as well as Jim Hopper, Eleven’s substitute father, who was thought dead at the end of last series and now looks to be in captivity.

“I was convinced I was put here for some other reason,” he says in a voiceover.

“Maybe I can still help, even if it’s the last thing I do.”

The trailer then cuts to various supernatural events happening in Hawkins, as well as clips of military vehicles in a conflict, and Eleven screaming against a background of sparking metal – and the reveal of a mysterious villain from the Upside-Down.

“It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins,” the series description reads.

“Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

Stranger Things has been one of Netflix’s biggest hits since the show premiered in 2016.

Starring Millie Bobby Brown and a host of child actors alongside established actors Winona Ryder and David Harbour, the show went onto garner a devoted fanbase, with 40.7m households tuning in for the third series and smashing viewing records in the process.

Stranger Things’ fourth season is on Netflix from May 27
