Man Utd forced to change Twitter bio after outrage from fans following City loss

MANCHESTER UNITED have been forced to change their Twitter bio following fan backlash after the club advertised a discount on their home kit.

Supporters raged that the Red Devils only care about money following the embarrassing 4-1 defeat against rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

Fans noticed that the club’s bio inlcuded a link to buy the home strip at a discounted price.

It read: “The home of Manchester United. Get 35 per cent off home kit and more on United Direct.”

This was in stark contrast to the club’s rivals City, with their bio referencing their seven top-flight titles – five of which have came since 2012.

Meanwhile Liverpool highlighted the need to report abuse, with the bio reading: “Official Twitter account of Liverpool Football Club. Stop The Hate, Stand Up, Report It.”

Chelsea’s simply states: “Champions of the World.”

Commenting on each club’s bio, one United fan tweeted: “The Twitter bios of the clubs paint a very clear picture of what they are focused on.

“For City, Liverpool, and Chelsea it’s about winning trophies. For Manchester United it’s about selling more shirts. The club is a mess from top to bottom.”

The fan’s post was liked over 40,000 times, with others users left ashamed of United.

Replying to his tweet, one supporter messaged: “Unfortunately I am not surprised. We are a business and not a football club. A good year for the Glazers equates to strong profits and not trophies.”

Another remarked: “These owners has made us a joke of a club on and off the pitch.”

A third added: “For as long as the Glazers own Manchester United always expect nothing to change. Leopard’s never change their spots.”

This user then simply stated: “Never noticed that before but wow! Shameful.”

Following the backlash, United updated their bio to read: “The home of Manchester United.”

The bio was then again amended to say ‘Change the game’ to celebrate the achievements of women who are transforming attitudes to women in football.

United’s defeat to the Citizens has seen them drop out of the top four, with Arsenal leapfrogging them in the table after their away victory at Watford.

Ralf Rangnick’s side could drop to seventh next week should they lose to Tottenham at Old Trafford and West Ham beat Aston Villa.
