Mbappe tells Messi to change PSG position to get back to best after struggles

KYLIAN MBAPPE believes Lionel Messi needs to change position if he wants to succeed at Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi, 34, has scored just two league goals since his free transfer from Barcelona last summer.

The Argentina legend appears uncomfortable on the right of a star-studded PSG attack featuring Mbappe and former Nou Camp pal Neymar.

And reports emerged last month linking Messi with a return to the Catalan capital.

However, the forward netted in Sunday’s 5-1 win at Ligue 1 champions Lille.

And after recovering from coronavirus, Messi is now set for a run of games in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI.

But Mbappe believes Messi should not be lining up on the right wing.

Instead, the striker reckons Messi plays best when he is the central attacker.

Ironically, that is where Mbappe is currently being used by Pochettino.

But the Frenchman appears happy for Messi to spearhead PSG’s front line.

Mbappe declared: “It’s better when Leo is in the middle? Yes, but I’m not the coach.

“Leo is a player who needs to be on the ball, to feel the game and the match to be involved.

“I think it’s a good position for him. He’s free, he can move around and take off.

“Me, I can play everywhere. I started in the middle, then on the right and now on the left but I still have a certain freedom in my movements.”
