he new Harry Potter Return to Hogwarts trailer for the upcoming 20th anniversary TV special has left fans spellbound, and some a little sad, as it sees the cast of the iconic film franchise reunited again.
The scheduled release of the TV special on New Year’s Day is likely to send many reaching for the tissue box with the collective comedown of the end of the festive period and what looks like extremely touching viewing likely to be too much for many.
There were several extremely emotional moments in the just under two-minute trailer.
Fans of the franchise particularly enamoured with the embrace between Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy).
There were also several tear-jerking moments between the three main cast members – with Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) telling the other two: “We’re family. We’ll always be part of each other’s lives.”
One of the more revealing moments from the 20th anniversary trailer comes from Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort).
He reveals his sister was one of the main driving forces in him deciding to take on the role.
Fiennes tells the creator’s of the show that his sister Martha instructed him that he had to take on the role, in part because she had young children at the time.
Helena Bonham Carter, who played Bellatrix Lestrange over the course of several films in the franchise, revealed one of her favourite parts of the whole series was playing Hermione Granger, who was pretending to be Bellatrix, while breaking into Gringotts Bank.
Daniel Radcliffe, who of course played the titular character Harry Potter, said: “The thing that scared me the most was the implication that the most meaningful thing in our life was done. And there’s something so joyous about seeing everyone, and being like ‘It wasn’t though’.”
Fans of Harry Potter had a lot of love for Emma Watson. Among the sea of comments, one wrote: “There are no doubts anymore that Emma Watson is the true Minister of Magic.”
Although there was some sadness for the stars that wouldn’t make the TV special.
Another said: “The Harry Potter reunion is going to break my heart because of Alan Rickman not being there.”
