Doggy Doggy Yum Yum which was launched in 2020 by Dorset based artisanal ice cream maker Baboo Gelato has been recognised by their peers by making the finals of the prestigious PetQuip and Pet Industry Federation (PFI) Awards.
The brand made the finals of Product Innovation (Dog Treats) and Business Start-up categories at PetQuip and the New Business Award at the PIF Awards which will take place at a black tie event on 21 October at Whittlebury Hall Hotel and Spa in Northampton.
Sam and Annie Hanbury, the husband and wife team behind multi-award winning Baboo Gelato ice cream found that lots of their customers were buying ice cream for their dogs. Realising that lactose is bad for dogs’ tummies, they saw a gap in the market for the first fully vegan, fully organic, dairy free premium frozen treat for dogs, and so Doggy Doggy Yum Yum was born.
Annie said ‘We’re delighted to have been recognised in our first year by both PetQuip and the PFI. It is a real honour.’
Sam added ‘We’ve been astonished how quickly Doggy Doggy has spread nationally. We always knew that pet owners wanted to give their dogs the best, but it’s nice to see it in action’.
Annie who trained as a professional gelatiere in Bologna, has brought the same care to the formulation of Doggy Doggy Yum Yum as she brings to her ice cream, so it uses the very best organic ingredients. Made with peanut butter and bananas which dogs find hard to resist, this frozen treat uses coconut milk instead of dairy so it is kinder to dogs’ tummies. The ice cream is 100% organic, natural and contains probiotics which come from the live yoghurt, vitamins C and B, iron, magnesium, copper and potassium from the coconut and bananas. If given as an occasional treat after a long walk in the countryside, the park or on the beach this tasty treat is perfect way to reward your dog. The peanut butter is pure and so does not contain sugar, xylitol or palm oil. Doggy Doggy contains no artificial flavourings, colours or refined sugars.
Baboo Gelato believes that Doggy Doggy Yum Yum is the first frozen treat to meet all the dietary and environmental criteria as it is organic, dairy free, gluten free, and suitable for vegans.
Although the name Doggy Doggy Yum Yum tells you who the product is for, it is completely human friendly, and is very popular with human customers as well.
Despite launching Doggy Doggy Yum Yum at the start of the Covid pandemic in 2020 with a hospitality industry in lockdown for most of the past 12 months, Baboo Gelato found limitless demand during the summer not just from obvious pet retailers and specialist dog friendly places, but from ordinary cafés, pubs, restaurants, and tourist destinations. The product is now in 120 stockists nationwide including some prestigious pet stores such as Pet Pavilion in London and the chain of Just For Pets Stores in the Midlands. They also secured national distribution through Pedigree Wholesale Ltd .meaning that pet owners up and down the country can now treat their dogs to Doggy Doggy Yum Yum. To achieve that is the first year of trading is remarkable with the ice cream selling by the case load through the stockists on a weekly and monthly basis.
The branding for Doggy Doggy was created by the renowned Robot Foods design agency in Leeds. It is playful and a little rebellious, and instantly eye catching. Robot Foods created an entire suite of canine characters for the Doggy Doggy brand, so look forward to new products featuring a fabulous collection of mutts, large and small, shaggy and sleek.
Doggy Doggy Yum Yum will be exhibiting at Discover Dogs 20-21 November at the ExCel Arena in London so pop along to their stand and treat your dog to one of their frozen treats.
