St Neot will soon have an outdoor table tennis table added to the range of equipment already in place in the village playing field. Money remaining in the Youth Club accounts when it stopped operating last year, supported by a grant of £4,450 from the National Lottery Community Fund, will allow the table to be installed on a purpose-built bitmac base as a legacy project recognising the 33 years that the Youth Club was open.
Former Youth Club Leader, Derek Fairhall, who is also co-ordinating the project on behalf of the Parish Council, said “table tennis has always been associated with youth clubs and installing a table in the playing field will forge a lasting link for all those who were club members, many of whom have children who also enjoyed their time at the club”.
The table, which is of concrete construction, will be installed in the early part of next year in time for spring and summer use. Haviland Bunt, Chairman of St Neot Parish Council, commented “the Parish Council continually looks to improve facilities in our village for the benefit of all our community. The new table tennis table will not only recognise the life of the Youth Club but will be available for everyone to have a game, or just have a go, at this all-age activity. We are incredibly grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for their support for this fabulous project”.
